Overview

The Noetic Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group with members in Southern California and around the world, who have been inspired to study Homer, Parmenides, the pre-Socratics, Plato, the neo-Platonists, and other perennial philosophers and mystics, not for academic reasons, but for personal spiritual growth. The society was founded by Pierre Grimes, PhD in 1967, and was incorporated in 1978.

Searching Our Collection

We have a common set of tags we use for filtering down the talks and items:

• subject:NSBSNT - Talks at the Theosophical Society's Besant Lodge in Los Angeles
  
• subject:NSCHT - Unstructured/impromptu chats or snippets of philosophical conversation
  
• subject:NSDRM - Dream Explorations and Philosophical Midwifery
  
• subject:NSFRI - Normal dialogues/discussions/study-sessions on Platonic and other perennial-philosophy texts. Over the years, these have usually been held on Friday nights, but not always.

By using 'subject:' within our collection's search box, you can also find all items related to a particular dialogue, such as subject:republic, subject:phaedo, subject:parmenides, subject:iliad, etc. Narrowing searches further is possible by specifying more than one search term with commas, e.g., subject:republic,book01 or subject:parmenides,hyp2 and so on.

You can also use the Advanced Search of the Internet Archive to search within our collection. (In the "Collection .. is .." field, put noeticsociety).

• BY (Attribution): You must retain attribution (give credit) to Pierre Grimes (or any of the contributors here) and the NS
• NC (Non-Commercial): You cannot in any way make money off of these. You-tubers: You cannot monetize your channel with these
• ND (No-Derivatives): You cannot re-mix or take parts of any production and make it into your own.  (You can, however, quote it.)
• No additional electronic limitations (such as DRM, etc.)

We request that if you are re-publishing, you respect the terms of this license. Please read the license carefully and thoroughly before considering any re-posting project, so that you know what you are doing, and can help us protect these materials for future generations.

1. Do not Monetize:
   Do not monetize your channel. If you do, you'll be violating the 'NC' part of the CC license. If you have other, non-NS vidoes/audios in your channel, which you do want to monetize, then you'll need to split your channels and put our material into your non-monetized channel.
2. Add License:
   Since YouTube does not (yet) support natively the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, you must add the following into the Description section of each and every item you repost:

   Do not title your channel, "Pierre Grimes and the Noetic Society", "Pierre Grimes" or "Noetic Society" or anything like that, because then it appears that the channel belongs to us. It doesn't: It's your channel, not ours. So we'd prefer if you named your channel something like, "Fans of Pierre Grimes and the Noetic Society" or "NS Fans" or even "Modern Platonism", etc., or some such, to make it clear that you are someone else. If you do not do this, you might be guilty of false personation and/or of violating the "BY" part of the CC license.

4. Link each video back to its original location:
   Also in the Description section of each item you repost, we request that you include a link back to the original item.
   
   For instance, if you are re-posting Pierre's PRS Video, "Direct Understanding and the Attainment of Buddhahood", (PRS video 88), please, in your post's Description section, also publish the link back to the original here on the archive, i.e.,
